Parent Support: Herbal Tips to Help You Sleep

asleepLack of sleep is a huge contributor to stress inside and outside the home, and can exacerbate the smallest of family problems. Here's our parent support guide to helping you get a good night's sleep the healthy way.

1) Camomile Tea

Drinking camomile tea before bedtime is said to cool the mind and promote sleep, so changing to this instead of your regular cup of coffee or tea may calm those sleepless nights full of tossing and turning.

2) Valerian

Valerian is the natural necessity to help end those mentally and physically exhausting days due to lack of sleep. It has been used as a medicinal herb since the times of ancient Greece and Rome, to treat temporary sleep disorders.

3) St John’s Wort

During wintry weather, many begin to feel down and unmotivated making it hard to get to sleep and wake up in the morning – St John’s Wort is another popular (though short-term) natural solution to say farewell to those sleep problems. It can also tackle a variety of mood related disorders including depression, seasonal affective disorder and menopausal low mood symptoms

4) Ginkgo Biloba

Freezing temperatures and damp weather can often cause numb fingers and toes, making it difficult to be comfortable in bed, and get a restful night’s sleep. Natural remedy ginkgo biloba may help to provide effective relief to those suffering from poor circulatory health so there are no pins and needles during the night.

5) Lavender Oil

Lavender has traditionally been used to induce relaxation and sleep. Place a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow and the scent should relax your body and soul, leaving your eyelids heavy and inviting sleep for a refreshing visit.
