Kids' Food Recipes: Delicious Chocolate Brownies Video GuideUltimate decadence and deliciousness abound in these classic Chocolate Brownies. Be ready to make more because these will disappear quickly! This is one of our favourite kids' food recipes, an integral part of our Food For Kids series.

Serves: this amount will do a tray about 12 inches by 11 inches, about an inch deep. That’s a lot of brownies - about 12 large portions.

Preparation time: around 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 350g soft butter
  • 500g sugar
  • 5 medium eggs
  • 130g self-raising flour
  • 130g cocoa powder
  • 100g pecans (optional)
  • 150g chocolate drops

Directions:

Using a mixer, cream the butter and sugar until it is white and fluffy

Add the eggs one at a time (put the eggs in a small dish first to check for specs). Mix each egg in before adding the next. Add the last egg half at a time.

Turn off the mixer, sift in the flour and cocoa. Mix initially on lowest speed (I do turning on for a second and off until the cocoa is under control otherwise you end up with a cocoa cloud).

Beat on high for 20 seconds.

Add the choc drops and pecans and mix in using a spatula.

Pour mixture into a greased tray. Spread the mixture evenly in tray.

Place the tray into a pre-heated oven at 180˚C (Gas Mark 4) for about 20 - 25 minutes (note: if you have a fan-forced oven, you may need to reduce the temperature to around 160˚C (Gas Mark 3)).

Cool, then turn out onto a cooling rack or chopping board and slice ready to eat.

Serve with your favourite ice-cream.
