Kids' Meals: Tuna and Avocado Pittas

Kids' Meals: Tuna and Avocado PittasThis amazingly quick recipe is great to get teeth stuck into at midday: it's tasty and exciting, and as a bonus, fish oils are a great contributor to healthy brain activity. Pittas pack away into lunchboxes and backpacks well, making them great for kids' meals. Part of our Healthy Food for Kids series.

Lunchbox: Tuna and Avocado Pittas

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 mini pitta breads
  • 185g can solid albacore tuna, drained
  • 1 medium size, ripe avocado, cut into large flat slices
  • 1 tbs mayonnaise
  • 1 tbs white onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 medium size carrot, grated
  • 1 stick celery, peeled and finely chopped
  • 300g raw buffalo mozzarella, drained and sliced
  • Freshly ground back pepper
  • Tin foil, to wrap

Method

  • In a large mixing bowl mix the tuna with the mayonnaise, breaking up the chunks with a fork.
  • Add the onion and mix well.
  • Add the carrot and celery pieces, fold into the mixture, and season with pepper
  • Place the mozzarella and avocado slices together into a pitta pocket, adding the tuna mixture on top, and repeat until all the pittas are filled.
  • Wrap in tin-foil for packing.
